COMPENSATION DELIVERED: Gramong (second left) presents a cheque to a recipient as Catherine (left) and Lau (third left) look on

SIBU: Rural Development Assistant Minister Datuk Gramong Juna has appealed to the opposition to refrain from
derailing the government’s development projects meant to benefit the people.

“Do not politicise them as they are meant for the good of the people, in particular those in rural areas.

“It is sad you should resort to such approach just to discredit the government or to win in the election,” he said.

He was speaking after presenting cheques totalling RM1.26 million as compensation to owners whose land totalling 85.26 hectares were affected by the construction of the Menalun-Poi Road project here.

The ceremony, attended by 71 out of the 80 recipients, was held at Kanowit community hall yesterday.

Gramong, who is Machan incumbent, said the 10-km Menalun-Poi Road was one of the five roads in Machan state constituency to be implemented under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) with a cost of RM45 million.

“The other NKRA road projects are in Ulu Machan, Kampung Bedil, Nanga Mam Road and in Batu Luking.

“I am glad to note most of the people in these areas are very grateful and appreciative to the government for improving their communication links,” he said.

Present at the ceremony were Gramong’s wife Datin Catherine Gramong, Land and Survey Department (LSD) Sibu superintendent Christina Lau, Kanowit district officer Bobbie Yamoh and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kanowit branch chairman Datuk Ho Bee Yek.
